Voter Coercion

We at NHCAN are deeply concerned about apparent voter coercion on Tuesday during elections. Please see the NHI article on this issue.

If you want to do something about it, please contact the State Elections Enforcement Commission. To do so, you need to complete this form and have it notarized (at a bank or the City Clerk’s office) and mail it here:

Aldermanic Debate This Thursday

in a candidates’ debate.

Place: Institute Library, 847 Chapel St. (near Church Street)
Time: Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m.

Hosted by La Voz Hispana, your Spanish newspaper and the New Haven Independent, your source for local news at www.newhavenindependent.org .

The debate includes:
Ward 7 candidates Democrat Frances “Bitsie” Clark and Green Daniel Sumrall
Ward 10 candidates Democrat Ed Mattison and Green Allan Brison

Questions will be posed by reporters from the New Haven Register, New Haven Advocate and the New Haven Independent. Debate will be moderated by Paul Bass.

IN response, we have prepared a list of candidates whom we feel best represents our objectives. Some are incumbents, others are new faces.

Voter Registration Information

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Felon Registration. I spoke to the Registrar’s Office 946 8035. A felon can register to vote if:

1. They have completed their prison sentence and not in prison
2. They are not on parole

Absentee Ballots. Per City Clerk’s Office 946-8349 absentee ballots can be requested if:

1, Person is handicapped or has a physical disability
2. Has work related or other duties that keep them away
3. They will be out of town during election day.
4. OR “other duties that keep them away”
The above must be attested to under penalty of law

In the above cases they can call the City Clerk’s office 946 8349 and have a ballot mailed to them. This ballot must be returned in the mail no later than one day before the primary or election. To assure the ballot is received it should be mailed earlier. Ballots can be requested and returned in person before election day at City Hall 200 Orange Street.

It is most important that the Absentee Ballots be collected and brought in by a candidate or by his/her representative to insure they are counted. It is important that they be tracked by each candidate and checked off on their master voter list that they use on election day. Then these folks will not be bothered by wasted phone calls etc and they are votes that can be relied upon….. if you require further explanation let us know.

Vote Your Voice

If you or someone in your family needs to register to vote or apply for a absentee voter form, fill out one of these forms:

The Official State Of Connecticut Website (not for mass distribution. If you plan on distributing 5 or more, you must get a copy from the City).

We will be happy to pick up forms from people who have them or you can bring them to the Registrar of Voters in City Hall.
